Homemade dishes, in my opinion, usually always taste better than what can be ordered out. Unless you’re strolling down the streets of Italy, this Caprese salad will tantalize the tastebuds and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home.
Prepare your palette for six ingredients that when combined together will make you sigh with satisfaction. And the aroma, okay, this is the heavenly part of this recipe. The moment the smell of basil fills your kitchen you instantly feel relaxed, inspired, and excited to create this salad!
Did I mention this is low-carb and paleo or keto-friendly? But of course. Let’s dig in!
Ingredients:
- Sweet cherry tomatoes
- Fresh basil
- Fresh mozzarella
- Balsamic vinegar
- EVOO
- Salt and pepper to taste
The main features in this recipe are the tomatoes, fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella. Tomatoes are known for being high in vitamins A & C which help fight off free radicals that cause premature aging.
Bonus Tip: How to pick mozzarella (there is something to this!)
Look for mozzarella made from cow’s milk because this is higher quality than mozzarella made from water buffalo or soybean oil. It shouldn’t be too wet, smooth, or oily feeling when you touch it but rather creamy and pliable. The mozzarella cheese will have one small hole on top where the air has been released as it was being packaged. Neat right?
Instructions:
Begin by slicing the mozzarella into thin slices. Set aside.
Cut the tomatoes in half and then take out the seeds with your fingers or a knife. If they’re in season, pick them up from a farmer’s market. The flavor of market tomatoes is incomparable.
Remember when I said this one was easy? Next place mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil leaves in a medium to a large bowl.
Drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the ingredients and sprinkle with salt & pepper if you like for more flavor. Gently toss allowing the ingredients to combine.

Ingredients
- 2 packs of grape tomatoes
- 8 oz of fresh mozzarella
- 1 bundle of fresh basil
Instructions
- Cut muzzarella into think chunks and place in a bowl.
- Cut grapeseed tomatoes in half and scoop out the seeds.
- Place tomatoes in a large bowl.
- Tear basil leaves from their stem and keep them whole or tear into halves or fourths.
- Add to bowl.
- Drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar and toss gently.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
