Spring rolls are a healthy and delicious way to welcome the spring season. These tasty treats can be made with a ton of different fillings, making them perfect for those with dietary restrictions, too.
What Do I Need to Make Spring Rolls?
You’ll need rice paper sheets but as far as the fillings go, the world is yours. You can do whatever you want here. This is a good way to clean up your fridge from stuff that’s on the verge. We used shrimp, carrots, scallions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and cabbage.
Other popular fillings are:
- Chopped butter lettuce
- Persian cucumbers
- Cilantro
- Mint
- Jalapenos
- Vermicelli noodles
How To Make Spring Rolls
Step 1: Get your kids to do it….. No really, these are also a fun activity for kids.
Fill a shallow pan (like a pie pan) with about an inch of water with your fillings in reach.
Fold a lint-free towel in half and place it next to your water.
Place one rice paper in the water and let it rest for about 20 seconds. You want your paper to be pliable but not floppy. Carefully lay it on the towel.
Leaving about an inch of open rice paper around the edges, cover the lower third of the paper with your fillings, being careful to evenly distribute them.
Fold the lower edge up over the fillings, rolling upwards until the filling is enclosed in rice paper. Fold over the remaining edges like a burrito.
There you have it, your first spring roll! Now just repeat these steps with the remainder of your fillings.
