What makes this dish unique is the almost obscene amount of garlic used. A classic Mediterranean staple, this simple ingredient also abounds with medicinal benefits, such as improved cholesterol, digestion, and reduced risk of heart disease.
What Do I Need?
For Spanish garlic shrimp tapas, all you’ll need are some medium shrimp, (lots of) garlic, onion, olive oil, and herbs like red pepper flakes, parsley, and paprika. Complete with some crusty bread for serving, and your tapas snack will be ready to eat.
Some kitchen tools you’ll need are a knife, skillet, spatula, and serving dish. Completing this dish from start to finish requires just 20 minutes, and there’s no prepping or baking involved. It really is that easy!
Ingredients
- 2 cups of medium shrimp
- 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 4 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- ½ teaspoon paprika powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Wash and dry the shrimp.
Heat your oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add garlic and shrimp, sauteing for about a minute.
Raise the heat to high, adding the shrimp and paprika. Stir to coat, and saute till the shrimp are pink and curled – around 3 minutes.
Remove from heat, season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Sprinkle with parsley and serve. Enjoy.
Serving and Pairing Ideas
Here are some of my favorite ways to serve this dish:
- A little freshly squeezed lemon juice adds a bit of a punch.
- A great way to enjoy this dish is by including little dishes of olives and sundried tomato to eat with the shrimp and bread.
- This dish pairs beautifully with any light wine such as white wine or rose.
- Feel free to reduce the red pepper flakes or paprika if you prefer less heat in your dish.
- This is a great keto friendly option, but you can add in some cheese as an additional garnish if you’d like.
Make-Ahead Ideas
This is a recipe you’ll want to eat fresh, so wait till you’re about to dine to prepare it. It’s a great recipe to chuck together for a dinner party, as it doesn’t take long and is delicious served hot.
A make-ahead tip is if you decide to use frozen shrimp, set aside a couple of minutes for the shrimp to thaw. You can do this easily by putting the shrimp in a bowl of cold water.
This dish will keep for up to three days when refrigerated in an airtight bowl.
This recipe truly is the trifecta of delicious, easy to make, and mouth-wateringly delicious, while the minimal ingredients and clean-up are an added bonus. Wonderfully fragrant and aromatic, I just know you’ll reach for this recipe time and time again.
