Did you know?
*A margarita is a traditional Mexican cocktail. The word “margarita” means pearl in Spanish, which represents the drink’s icy appearance and smooth taste when served on ice or blended with crushed ice.
*Champagne is made from fermented grapes, often chardonnay or pinot noir. It has a rich, sweet flavor that enhances some of the sour flavors found in many cocktails including margaritas! Margs are also awesome because they have less alcohol than most other alcoholic beverages at just 11% ABV (or about two shots worth). They’re perfect for those who want to enjoy an evening out without getting too drunk – not only will you be able to dance all night long but you’ll actually remember the night!
*The health benefits of champagne and margaritas are plentiful. After all, this is what we’re drinking for! One study found that people who drank 12 ounces per day had greater activity levels in the form of dancing, which is GREAT for weight loss!
What do I need to make this?
fresh lime juice
3 ounces tequila
3 ounces pineapple juice
2 ounces triple sec
1 (750 ml) bottle of champagne or prosecco for topping
lime wedges for garnish
kosher or sea salt for rimming the glasses.
Simple Variations:
Different tequilas will give you different flavors.
Generally speaking, there are 3 main types of tequilas:
Reposado
Reposado Which translates to “to rest” is a type of aged but mellow tequila. Aged for 60 days to a year in oak barrels, some argue it is preferable over anejos because of its shorter aging process which does not overwhelm with the distinctive aroma and flavor of agave.
Blanco
Blancos are un-aged tequilas that are bottled shortly after distillation, but can be kept in stainless steel tanks for a few weeks before bottling. These spirits aren’t aged at all and represent the purest form of this liquor.
Anejo
Añejo tequila, or aged Tequila has a smokey flavor comparable to sipping Cognac. To be considered “añejo,” the drink must have been aged 1-3 years in oak barrels giving it an amber color and bolder taste that is more complex than its blanco counterpart.
For this recipe, I used blanco.
How do I make it?
You’ll need four champagne flutes. First, rim your glasses by dipping the rims of each glass in a shallow dish of water and then into a shallow dish of kosher salt or run cut lime around the rim (if desired).
Next, mix all tequila, pineapple juice and triple sec together in a shaker for margarita base, shaking until just chilled.
Divide the margarita base between 4 empty champagne flutes.
Finally, top with prosecco/champagne to finish! Garnish with fresh limes.

Make-ahead ideas:
You can make the margarita base ahead of time and keep it chilled in the fridge. This will also prevent the margarita base from getting watered down when you shake it.
